Project 56: Reknit, restyled, regroovenated hat

I don’t have a before photo. It was just a simple beanie with a rolled edge. It was too wide and too short and was not keeping anything cozy but a dark corner of a cupboard. So I ripped it out. This is called frogging by knitters. (rip-it, rip-it….)

Here is the new hat…june

I stole the brim an idea from a hat I saw at Heaven Boutique in Fernie over March Break. It was a rectangular brim with folded back buttoned corners to shape the brim. I ran out of yarn, so the brim is a bit narrow and I found it looks best when worn asymmetrically, (or if you wear it backwards, you’ve got ear flaps.)

My daughter got some very pretty super chunky yarn there and knit herself a cowl and a hat. She is also the master of pompom making.

I started knitting socks. If we were to knit the same number of stitches as Heather in her two projects, a quick estimate has me with a little less than double the length in my one sock. It makes me want to knit super chunky too.

I’m ready for spring, but I don’t mind the cooler days sprinkled in the mix, having some cozy knits to wear when the spring snow flies.
